Welcome to PEADS Lab - Cutting-Edge Research 1,000 Days of Life

The PEADS lab at the University of New Brunswick is one of the few labs in Canada that works with vulnerable populations such as pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and toddlers to improve health outcomes. The PEADS Lab explores the factors that influence early-life health, particularly through the lens of the infant gut microbiome, human milk and metabolic health. Our ultimate goal is to develop lifestyle (such as nutrition and physical activity) interventions and programs that promote optimal growth and long-term health outcomes for both mothers and children.

The PEADS lab employs clinical, mixed-methods, and basic science research to answer research questions related to maternal and child health (see Projects). It uses unique state-of-the-art equipment, such as air-displacement plethysmography for body composition testing (PEA POD, BOD POD), indirect calorimetry for metabolic testing (infant metabolic chamber and canopy hood), ergospirometry and exercise testing (VO2max and submaximal), and human milk analyzers to ultimately lead innovations in maternal and child health.

The PEADS lab is directed by Dr. Maryam Kebbe.
